From 14th to 16th July, the National Education Coalition (NEC) South Sudan, with support from the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), successfully conducted a three-day high-level engagement with the Standing Specialized Committee on General Education and Instruction in the Transitional National Legislative Assembly of the Republic of South Sudan.
The engagement focused on “Strengthening Parliamentary Oversight and Coordination for Enhanced Transparency and Accountability in Public Education Delivery.” It provided a platform for constructive dialogue between Parliament and education stakeholders on strengthening oversight mechanisms, improving coordination, and promoting transparency and accountability in the delivery of quality education across South Sudan.
NEC South Sudan was honored by the presence of the Acting Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ambrose Lomin Pitia, who officially graced the engagement. In his remarks, he emphasized the vital role of education in national development, stating, “A country without education is like a house without a kitchen.”
Over the three days, participants discussed the critical role of Parliament in monitoring education policies, budget allocation and implementation, strengthening collaboration among key education actors, and ensuring that every child has access to quality, inclusive, and equitable education.
The engagement reaffirmed that education is a shared responsibility, requiring strong partnerships, effective coordination, and collective commitment from Parliament, government institutions, civil society organizations, development partners, and communities to improve education outcomes in South Sudan.
